Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has admitted that more new signings are expected to arrive before the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season, as the club continues its major rebuild following a summer of significant changes.
Speaking after officially taking charge of the Magpies, the German coach acknowledged that replacing several key players would not be easy, but insisted he sees the situation as an opportunity rather than a problem.
Jaissle has inherited a squad that has undergone a dramatic transformation, with Newcastle losing some of their biggest stars during the transfer window. While many supporters remain concerned about the departures, the new manager struck an optimistic tone, insisting that dwelling on what has already happened will not help the club move forward.

When asked where Newcastle could realistically finish this season after such a turbulent summer, Jaissle admitted it was impossible to make bold predictions so early into his reign.
“It’s a tough question after just one day officially being the manager,” he explained. “We lost a couple of really important players, but I can see it as a positive challenge. We can search for excuses, but that’s not our idea.”
Instead of immediately demanding several signings, Jaissle revealed that he first wants to properly evaluate the current squad. The 38-year-old believes every player deserves the opportunity to impress before final decisions are made on who stays and who could eventually leave.
He stressed that understanding the strengths, mentality and quality of the existing group is one of his immediate priorities during pre-season.
“I want to get to know the players first to see what they can show. I want to give them a chance,” Jaissle said. “We can wait.”
However, while patience is part of his approach, the Newcastle boss made it clear that transfer activity is far from over. He confirmed that the club has the financial capacity to strengthen the squad further and revealed he is in regular communication with sporting director Andrea Berta regarding potential additions.
Jaissle expressed confidence that Newcastle supporters will see several fresh faces arrive before the new campaign begins.
“We have the capacity to do something in the market,” he added. “Our sporting director is aware of that, so I’m sure when the season starts we will see some more new faces.”
Those comments are likely to excite Newcastle fans, who have been eagerly waiting for further reinforcements after several departures reshaped the squad. The Magpies have already been linked with a number of midfielders, defenders and attacking players as Jaissle looks to build a younger, more energetic team capable of competing at the highest level.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the transfer window, Jaissle’s calm and confident approach has already made a positive impression on supporters. Rather than focusing on the players Newcastle have lost, he is concentrating on building a competitive squad with the resources available while giving every member of the current team a fair opportunity to prove themselves.
With weeks still remaining in the transfer window, Newcastle appear far from finished in the market. If Jaissle’s prediction proves correct, St James’ Park could welcome several exciting new arrivals before the Premier League season gets underway, giving fans renewed optimism that a fresh era under the German coach is only just beginning.
