Newcastle United have made their pitch to Johan Manzambi’s representatives as the Switzerland World Cup star continues to grab headlines across the Atlantic.

The SC Freiburg star has registered three goals and two assists for his country at the World Cup so far after helping Switzerland see off Algeria and keep their dream alive for another round.

Switzerland will now face either Ghana or Colombia and will fancy their chances of reaching the World Cup quarter-finals thanks to Manzambi’s fine form.

The one big factor that could work in Newcastle’s favour is that they can offer Manzambi a regular first-team starting role every week in the Premier League.

The player’s agent, Ismael Miller, said last season: “Manzambi’s priority is to continue at Freiburg, where he’s doing very well. He wants to maintain his progress in the Bundesliga, then play for Switzerland at the World Cup if they qualify, and then we’ll see.

“So, before changing clubs, we’ll think about it carefully. Of course, my phone is always ringing and there is interest, but the boy wants to stay calm, finish the season at Freiburg, play for Switzerland, and then we’ll see.

“Plan A remains continuity with Freiburg in the Bundesliga, but we all know football; if a significant offer comes in, I’m the first to evaluate it. We’re grateful to Freiburg, but if an offer were to arrive that would allow the boy to develop further, we would consider it, obviously while also discussing it with the club.”

Since late 2025, the 20-year-old’s stock has risen dramatically, and Newcastle are not alone in attempting to lure the exciting World Cup star to one of football’s biggest stages.
