🚨 JUST IN: Newcastle Make SHOCK Lewis Hall Decision After Manchester United Push as Jaissle Faces FIRST Major Test!

Newcastle United’s summer preparations entered a crucial phase as new head coach Matthias Jaissle prepared to oversee his first match in charge, with the Magpies facing Valencia in Spain on Saturday evening.

The friendly at Mestalla represented an important early opportunity for Jaissle to assess his squad in a competitive setting. However, the build-up was complicated by fitness concerns, with several senior players still working their way back to full fitness.

The most notable absence was young left-back Lewis Hall.

According to reporting from The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, Hall departed Newcastle’s week-long training camp in La Manga ahead of schedule and returned to Tyneside on Friday. The decision was understood to have been taken as a precaution after the 21-year-old picked up a minor knock.

Hall was not the only player to make the early journey home. Centre-back Fabian Schär and midfielder Lewis Miley also returned with him, meaning all three were ruled out of Newcastle’s meeting with Valencia.

However, Hall’s absence was not expected to be a long-term concern. The defender was due to continue his fitness work at Newcastle’s training base, The Beacon, with the club taking no unnecessary risks during the preseason period.

The situation also comes amid growing interest from Manchester United.

United have been monitoring Hall as they look to strengthen at left-back, but Newcastle have made their position clear. The Magpies have rejected an initial enquiry and have informed Manchester United that Hall is not for sale this summer.

That stance is significant for Newcastle as the club enters a new era under Jaissle.

Hall, still only 21, is regarded as an important part of the club’s future and fits the profile of a young player Newcastle want to develop rather than cash in on. His ability to contribute defensively while also offering quality in possession makes him particularly valuable as Jaissle begins implementing his ideas.

For Manchester United, therefore, the door appears firmly closed for now. For Newcastle, the priority is simply getting Hall back to full fitness.

Looking ahead

The positive news for Newcastle supporters is that Hall’s issue does not appear to be serious. With the club taking a precautionary approach, allowing him, Schär and Miley to continue their fitness work away from the Valencia fixture makes sense given the length of the season ahead.

If Hall returned to training as planned, he could potentially feature in one of Newcastle’s remaining preseason fixtures.

Following Valencia, Newcastle are scheduled to face Everton at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on August 12 before returning to St James’ Park for back-to-back home friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen on August 15 and Strasbourg on August 16.

Those matches could provide Jaissle with further opportunities to integrate Hall into his plans before the competitive campaign begins.

Newcastle’s Premier League opener is scheduled for August 23 against Liverpool at St James’ Park, meaning having Hall fully fit and available for that fixture would be a major boost.

The young full-back offers energy, composure in possession and the ability to operate as both an overlapping full-back and a more inverted defender. Those qualities could make him an important component of Jaissle’s tactical approach.

For now, though, the focus is on managing his recovery rather than rushing him back.

Jaissle’s first preseason match was always going to be about assessing his squad, experimenting with combinations and beginning to establish his tactical identity. With Hall, Schär and Miley unavailable, the German coach was forced to look at alternative options and give opportunities to players further down the squad hierarchy.

The Valencia fixture therefore represented more than simply another preseason friendly. It was the first real glimpse of how Jaissle intends to shape Newcastle following Eddie Howe’s departure.

Newcastle will hope the precautionary approach with Hall pays off and that the youngster is back among his teammates sooner rather than later.

With the Premier League season fast approaching, the priority is clear: keep the squad healthy, give Jaissle enough time to implement his ideas and ensure Newcastle enter the August 23 meeting with Liverpool in the strongest possible condition.
