🚨 BOMBSHELL: Newcastle United Absentees CONFIRMED Ahead of Crucial West Brom Clash as Fans Left Worried

Newcastle United have been handed another setback at a difficult stage of the season, with Matthias Jaissle now facing a defensive headache after confirmation that one of his most important players will be unavailable for several weeks.

The timing could hardly be worse for the new Newcastle boss.

After Sunday’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool, the Magpies are preparing for another busy run of fixtures, beginning with Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup meeting with West Bromwich Albion. However, Jaissle will have to plan without his newly appointed captain.

Dan Burn suffered an ankle injury in training shortly before the Liverpool game and was ruled out of the Premier League opener. The latest update suggests the problem is more serious than initially feared, with the experienced defender expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines.

That is a particularly frustrating blow because Burn had only recently been handed the captain’s armband following Bruno Guimaraes’ departure.

The 34-year-old has become an important figure inside the Newcastle dressing room, while his ability to operate at both centre-back and left-back gives Jaissle valuable flexibility. Newcastle’s own profile describes Burn as comfortable in both positions and highlights his long-standing connection with the club.

Now, however, the German coach must find a solution.

Newcastle already have Joelinton unavailable with an injury, while Tino Livramento has also been working his way back from a calf problem. That leaves Jaissle with fewer options as the fixtures begin to pile up.

Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and Malick Thiaw are among the senior defensive options available, but Burn’s absence removes more than just another defender from the squad. His leadership and experience could be equally difficult to replace.

The situation also comes at a time when Newcastle are still working on their squad before the transfer window closes.

Reports have linked the club with further additions, particularly in midfield and attack, but Burn’s injury could force the recruitment team to reconsider whether defensive cover should also become a priority.

For Jaissle, the challenge is immediate.

Newcastle showed plenty of fight against Liverpool and twice took the lead before conceding a controversial late equaliser. But with Tottenham, Bournemouth and Leeds among the upcoming league opponents, the German manager cannot afford to lose too many more senior players.

The injury to Burn therefore gives Newcastle another problem to solve just as Jaissle begins shaping his team in his own image.

The Magpies will hope their new captain can recover quickly, but for now, the message from the latest reports is clear: Newcastle have suffered a major defensive blow, and Jaissle must find a way through it.
